White's Hill Road is a residential enclave in a quintessential rural Berkshire setting. In the towns of Alford and South Egremont, off a narrow country road surrounded by beautiful farms and woodlands, it is less than 10 minutes from vibrant downtown Great Barrington, the heart of "south county" and selected in May 2012, by Smithsonian Magazine as number one of "The 20 best small towns in America".
The 115-acre property, meticulously planned by architect-developer, Steven Haas, is being developed in two phases. In the first phase, which has seven sites in the Town of Egremont, the first home has now been completed. The remaining six sites, ideal for vacation or primary homes, range in size from eight to nineteen acres and are illustrated on this website. Each home site is configured to assure privacy and take advantage of superlative views, babbling brooks, wooded hills, meandering stonewalls, and exquisite rock outcroppings. A greenway meanders through the property—a hayfield created by Haas and planted and maintained by a local farmer under the auspices of the White's Hill Road Homeowners' Association—will provide open views, cross streams, enhance wildlife habitat, and offer more than a mile of walking trails. (Please see HOA section for more views of the Greenway)
In keeping with the sensitivity to natural settings and views at White's Hill Road, home designs will emphasize modernity, environmental consciousness, and green technology. To help prospective residents envision the design potential of each site, Haas has tapped a group of talented architects who will offer plans for review. (Please see the Architects section of this website.)
THE FIRST TWO HOMES ARE NOW COMPLETED

STEVEN HAAS
White's Hill Road is the creation of architect and developer Steven Haas. Recognized by Architectural Digest as one of the nation's 100 leading architects, Haas is known for his vision, his meticulous attention to detail, and his commitment to quality. Dedicated to the creation of buildings that celebrate the natural environment, he has designed notable private residences characterized by highly livable designs featuring clean geometric lines, transparency with the outdoors, and a bold interplay of steel, stone, glass, stone and other natural materials.
Steven is also the developer of Long Lake, a planned unit development comprising 68 'courtyard' homes on 220 acres in Ancram, New York with natural ponds, extensive recreational facilities and miles of nature trails and greenways. White's Hill Road, a community of individual homes on large sites, similarly has the benefit of commonly shared greenways and open space. The first home on Site 1, pictured above, is modeled after one of the most popular Long lake homes. (see www.longlakehomes.net)
